Canonical outside the head

IssueMedium priority

Pages declaring a canonical below the head, where search engines do not look for one.

Why it matters

It is ignored, so the page behaves as though it declared nothing while looking as though it has been dealt with.

How to fix it

Move it into the head. One in the body is usually injected by JavaScript or pasted in by a content editor.

Skitter runs this check on every crawl, and lists each page it finds with the evidence: the header, the tag or the link that gave it away.
