Privacy Policy

Juye Symons ("I", "me") develops Skitter (the "App"), a website crawler and technical SEO auditor for Mac. The App reads the websites you choose to crawl and reports what it finds. It does not send what it finds to me.
Information the App stores
- Your library: the sites you add, your crawls, and what each crawl recorded about the pages it read (addresses, response headers, titles, links, images and the checks' findings). This is kept in a database inside the App's container on your Mac.
- Passwords for sites that ask the App to sign in. These are kept in your macOS Keychain, never in the library, a log or an export.
- Settings, such as crawl options, the user agent and report branding, kept on your Mac.
- Exports and reports are saved only where you choose to save them.
I do not run a server that receives any of this data.
Network requests
- When you crawl a site, the App requests its pages, robots.txt, sitemaps and linked files directly from your Mac. Those sites, and the hosts they load from, see your IP address and the user agent set in the crawl's settings, under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Subscriptions are bought and managed through the App Store. Apple handles payment, and I receive no payment details.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
The App contains no advertising or analytics SDKs, no developer-operated telemetry and no cross-app tracking. Diagnostic messages go to macOS's own log on your Mac, with crawled addresses kept private. I do not sell personal data.
This website
This website sets no cookies and has no analytics, advertising or tracking. It is hosted by Vercel, whose servers receive your IP address in order to answer your browser's requests, under Vercel's own privacy policy.
Retention and deletion
- Deleting a site or a crawl in the App deletes it from the library. The App can also delete older crawls of each site for you, as set in Settings.
- Saved site passwords can be deleted in the Keychain Access app, where they are labelled "Skitter crawl sign-in".
- Deleting the App and its container removes the library and settings.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area:
- Legal basis: the App processes the sites and passwords you give it because it needs them to provide its core function.
- Access and deletion: you can view and delete your sites and crawls in the App, and saved site passwords in Keychain Access, at any time.
- Portability and control: your data stays on your Mac, and you can export your crawls.
- Complaints: you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Children
The App is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
I may update this policy. Changes will be posted at this address.
