Errors in a sitemap

IssueHigh priority

Addresses a sitemap lists that answer with an error or do not answer at all.

Why it matters

A sitemap listing pages that do not exist tells search engines it cannot be trusted, and they may pay it less attention.

How to fix it

Remove each from the sitemap, or restore the page. Sitemaps generated from the site's own pages avoid this.

Skitter runs this check on every crawl, and lists each page it finds with the evidence: the header, the tag or the link that gave it away.
