Heading levels that skip

WarningLow priority

Parsed pages whose headings jump more than one level deeper, such as an H2 followed by an H4.

Why it matters

A screen reader moving through the page by heading meets a gap in the outline, as though a section had been left out.

How to fix it

Use the next level down for a subsection, and style it however it should look. Going back up — an H3 then an H2 — is fine.

Skitter runs this check on every crawl, and lists each page it finds with the evidence: the header, the tag or the link that gave it away.
